It had a big board showing that I had a 283 motor in it. Did the 283 motor come out in 55? It was in stock class.

The 265 V-8 was the only optional V8 offered for 3000 Series 1955.2 (Second Series) trucks. The 283 showed up in the Chevy truck lineup in 1957. Most likely an engine swap somewhere in its history. As to whether it qualifies to fit in a "stock class" would depend on who's defining the "stock class". Technically speaking, its not stock.
