It wont fit that way! I have a Thickstun timing cover and the slinger is hitting the cover on the inside. SO HOW DOES IT GO? It can't fit cupped towards the gear. I have a General Motors GMC truck manual, BUT it says nothing about the slinger. Its possible that it might not be a part of this engine, as it was a basket job. Could the slinger be from something else???? Jay D.

That would help the guys answer your question.
If you go to your profile and add your truck info in a signature, you wouldn't have to type it in when you post.

I see nothing related to a "crankshaft oil slinger" in the instructions or diagrams.
Post a picture of your "slinger" so we can further consider what it may really be please.

There is an oil slinger at the rear of the crankshaft between rear main bearing and the rear main seal. The cavity that the slinger rides in has a drain hole in the bottom. This slinger is not removable from the crankshaft. It is machined from the raw crankshaft casting.
Either the slinger you are worried about is a part specific to the Thickstun timing cover you have or one of your buddies dropped a slinger from some other engine in amongst your GMC parts as a prank.
