Got to a car show yesterday (without my truck) and saw some nice vehicles.

A nice 55.2 or 56 1/2 ton and a 1953 GMC panel.

Kevin -- Always fun to go to a show that actually has interesting vehicles to look at, instead of just a bunch of late model stuff showcasing added on chrome crap, loud stereos and computer performance.

Beautiful panel truck!!

Some really nice local trucks there Kevin. Will be nice when yours can join them in the future. I agree on John's assessment of the "Beautiful panel truck!!" thumbs_up

Machine shop says maybe they'll be done assembling the short block next week. Then I have to bolt the rest of the engine together and install it. My target is the big show the first Sunday in August, if not before.

On a side note, I took a closer look at the engine bay on the GMC panel. Didn't recognize the carburetor - not a Rochester or a Carter that I've seen. @carbking might know.

LOL! Yep says "ZENITH" right on the side, if I had just zoomed up far enough. Has a bowl drain valve, which is a new one on me.

Kevin - That’s not a drain valve. It’s actually an adjustable “main jet”.

“carbking” can better describe it and how it functions than I can. wink

OK, as I said, I'm not familiar with that Zenith carb model. I do recall that the Zenith updraft carb used on the Model A's had a fuel adjustment on them, incorporated with the choke. Pull for choke and turn for more fuel when the choke is closed. That could be done on the fly from inside. Just accompanied a Model A back from that show that had issues with the engine running too lean and backfiring. A main jet adjustment took care of that.

That is a Zenith model 28 (has the idle mixture adjust screw high on the back of the carb) or 228 (has the screw on the left side near the throttle plate, can't see either in this picture).

The adjustable high speed jet was an option for use higher than 6000 feet above sea level.

The really neat thing about it was that you left the original main jet in place, as shown in the drawing below from Zenith's overhaul manual for 28/228 carbs. That way you can revert to the fixed main jet by backing the adjustment of the adjustable jet all the way CCW.

I have one on my Zenith 228, but I've never been higher than about 2100 ft above sea level.
