| | | | Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 217 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Mar 2013 Posts: 217 | just starting to assemble my 270 GMC and i pulled the oil pump apart to clean it. and i got to thinking about the relief spring, back in the old days we use to stretch them or shim them a little with the idea it would boost oil pressure. i have some AN washers that are .06 thick and fit perfectly under the spring good or bad idea???

It could help with oil pressure at higher rpms however...but how much? You're sort of guessing. Please don't stretch the spring. Not a good scheme. If you could find a new spring that might be better.

'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.
