I just purchased a NOS headlight switch for my ‘52 and the dimmer acts like it’s dirty. The resistance coil is not broken and looks fairly clean. I doused it down with DeoxIT (contact cleaner) with little success. I also ran a piece of 400 grit paper on the wiper then used a small wire brush on the sections I could reach with a Dremel. It improved but still is intermittent. What's the best way to clean the resistance coil?

I tried everything on Ol' Roy and The Bismarck.

After no success with either one dimming or brightening the dash consistently, I wired the dash lights directly to the taillight terminal so the dashboard is always lit at full power whenever the taillights and headlights are on.

Of course I can't remember a single time in my life that I ever thought the dash lights were too bright and needed to be turned down. All my vehicles' dash lights are always turned up to full brightness.

I like Otto's plan of hot wiring for full brightness.
I have the same mentality for stuck seat adjusters, as long as I can get the seat to be stuck all the way back.

Please make sure you have decent pressure on the coil from the wiper. If the wiper just loosely contacts the coil this can happen.
