I've found that this engine has solid lifters and that the rocker Arm Shaft lubrication has the lub line going from the rear of engine block to the lubrication port that supplies oil to the Rocker Arm lub tube assembly. That said: should this engine have had hydraulic lifters (it has solid lifter); and two should the bolt that goes into the Rocker Arm oil gallery be drilled to allow oil flow into the Rocker Arm lubrication tube assembly (this engine's bolt does not have oil passage.)?

Here is a link to his site.

Nothing beats taking things apart and confirming what's actually there. Hydraulic lifter blocks have a BIG oil gallery drilled from front to rear through all the lifter bores, and passages from the oil pump big enough to keep them filled. Most, if not all of the late model 235 blocks had the lifter oil gallery drilled, even if they had a solid lifter (truck) camshaft from the factory. The head bolt with the 1/16" orfice drilled through it was only needed when a particular mismatch between early and late blocks and heads were used. There's no telling what has been done to a stovebolt engine since it was new, so chasing part numbers might be a fun pastime, but there's no guarantee whatsoever that a 60+ year old serial number means anything at all! Block and cylinder head casting numbers and dates confirm them both as 1955.2 Series 235 with the low mount large water pump casting hole in the front of the block. The regular production truck 235's were solid lifter equipped engines from the factory. You can read the full description of how the oil is circulated up to the rocker arm assembly on this page of the 1955.2 Shop Manual.
