I put a 1962 235 engine in my 53 half ton truck. I did not know at the time that the pivot point for the throttle linkage was in a different spot on the block. I am under the impression that the only really good fix for that is to drill a new hole in the block for the pivot mechanism. Am I right about that? Since my engine was already installed when I became aware of the issue, I made up some custom stuff to use as linkage. It has worked well enough to let me drive the truck, but it's far from ideal. So, I'm wondering, is it practical to drill & tap the block at the right location, while the engine is in the truck? AND: Since putting 235 engines in A.D. trucks has been popular for so many years, it seems like there must be lots of other popular options that I don't know about. Please educate me. THANKS

The biggest issue is the exhaust manifold is directly in the way. If you were to remove the intake/exhaust manifold you would have a clean shot at drilling/tapping a new pivot.

The other issue is keeping the cast iron shavings out of the oil pan. The best option is removing it. Using magnets and a vacuum may work but if it was me, I’d remove the pan.

I have a '60 235 in my '46 and had to try different setups with the throttle linkage. My engine block does not have the option for a second pivot point, but I guess you can still drill a hole in the block and use thread sealer. Here are some pics from some Stovebolters when I got some help on mine. I did have to bend the rod a little bit on mine that goes from the pedal to the pivot.

Im sure this is a dumb question, but, could you just remove the linkage from a 60-62 truck and use that linkage in an AD truck?

Mike - There are no dumb questions... as the saying goes. wink

1960-62 Chevy pickup accelerator pedal and rod to the engine mounted bell crank is a different animal from your trucks design. I think it would be easier for your to adapt your pedal rod to a set up like John (Utah York) showed above.

It would help if you can share pics of the parts/pieces you have and we can offer best suggestions.
