I have noticed in pictrues that the fenders, hoods etc. on 1500 series vs 6100 series trucks look like they are different sized.
If they are a different size, how much is the difference in size?
If I found a good 6100 series cab would it fit on a 1500 series frame?

Jim - Not sure what you mean by "1500" series??? Are you talking about a Canadian Chevy 1500 Series truck? If I remember correctly, the Canadian Chevy 1500 Series trucks were the equivalent of the US Chevy 4000-6000 Series trucks (Big Bolts), so they should share the same fenders, hoods and grilles except for badging. They all used the same sized cabs from pickup through the Big Bolt trucks, so I don't think that should be a problem.

Only other difference I can think of that might have some effect is if the truck frame is the earlier or later cab mount design, which in the US Chevy's changed over from 1948 to 1949 and later (see Shop Manual diagram for comparison).

I have noticed that it seems easier to find a better cab for/on a 1, 1 1/2, or 2 ton older truck than a 1/2 ton pickup. It could be the angle of the pictures for the bigger trucks that make the cabs and front clips look bigger to me.
I would like to put together a late 40 early 50 1/2 ton Chevy with a square Omaha Standard box instead of a standard pickup box.
My ultimate goal is to find a 64/65 C80 with a 409 and a working 4 and 5 gear with a two speed rear end, make it road worthy and have some fun.

With Big Bolts the Cabs and the Hoods are generally the same as the smaller trucks. The radiator core supports are wider as is the grill. Often times the front fenders are wider and have larger wheel well openings. There are some differences from year to year and model to model.

A C60 would be easier to find, the C80 with a 409 is going to be pretty rare.

Agreed that often the bigger trucks can be found with better condition cabs. As mentioned above, the cabs are the same overall size from Pickup to Big Bolts for the AD series (1947-53), with minor differences on the cab mount designs as also noted. But the entire front clip is bigger/longer on any of 1-1/2 ton and up models. 1 tons (3800 model) still keep the smaller truck front clip.

I guess my next question would be - what sized chassis are thinking??? Putting an "Omaha Standard box" (presuming thats the one used on the 1-1/2-2 ton Big Bolt trucks) on a smaller pickup chassis will present some difficulties both in engineering/adapting mounting as well as weight distribution to keep the truck driveable.

1500 series ?

I'm a little confused...are you talking about two different trucks, late 40's/early 50's and then something from the mid 60's or are you going to marry the two together to make one truck???

Just to add more confusion, the task force (1955.2 - 1959) Low Cab Forward cab is not identical to the other models due to the door openings, other than that issue, the rest of the cab is the same from 1/2 ton through 3 ton. Glass, dash, seat, roof, behind-the-seat fuel tank, will interchange.
