I have rebuilt the transmission, but I seem to be missing a seal that goes on the front of the trans under the bearing retainer. This would keep transmission oil from coming through the input shaft bearing. I have checked all of the usual sources but can't seem to locate this seal. This is not the gasket, I have that. This is a seal that goes around the main input shaft. back into the case. In addition the inside of the front bearing retainer (the part the
throughout bearing rides on) is machined to correspond with the slinger.
If there is excessive wear on either or both of these parts, oil can leak out.
The slinger/nut is left hand thread and some times are removed or installed with
channel lock pliers which damages the part.

The bearing lock nut takes a special wrench which I fabricated from 1/8” flat plate. Here is the post that shows the wrench.

Later transmissions such as the Saginaw 3 and 4 speeds did have a front seal, but the SM 318, 319 3 speeds, and most SM420 4 speeds didn't have one.
