Several months ago I broke my 1940 hood ornament in two. I had to leave for an extended time, but returned home recently and tackled the repair. The open channel on the underside measured 7/16 " wide. So, I made a crude splice connector from mild steel that fit nicely in the broken channel. I scuffed all surfaces, and cleaned them well. Then I used lots of JB weld to put the two pieces back together. The piece is now back on the truck, and so far it has stayed strong and is still together.

If you're smart enough to take it apart, you darn well better be smart enough to put it back together.
