I ordered a new sun visor (brown) to match the interior of my 1947 3100. I can't get it to slide on the metal support bracket rod. Anyone know the secret to accomplishing this task without ruining the new visor?

I had trouble getting mine installed as well. I ended up using a rod that was slightly larger than the tube in the visor as a punch an tapping the visor over the support rod. I did put a cloth rag between the punch and the visor material in an effort to minimize any damage to the material.

I suspect others will be along shortly with better solutions.

Ray - Just a couple of thinking outside the box thought, but maybe give the first couple of inches of the end of the sun visor rod a coating of wax. Furniture drawer glide wax (old school stuff) or even a little past wax will aid in getting it going and sliding down onto the rod. It is meant to have a semi compression fit to keep it positioned on the rod when installed, so it's meant to be a little on the tight side. If your using old/original visor rods a good rub down with some steel wool might make the task easier too.

Ray, See my latest entry in the Project Journal - 1952 Chevy Suburban 3106 as I just went through putting interior sun visors on. I had to use some spray lithium grease on the rod to help get them on. V/r, Nick

When we had our 49 it didn’t have a right side visor didn’t have any problems, that was about 13 years ago. The 51 we bought last May did not have a left one, got the parts from the filling station got it on but not easy. I repainted the interior and needed just the visor for the right side, got one from Classic Parts ruined it trying to get it on the original bracket. Decided to order another one and a new bracket no luck with that. Called and sent pictures, we decided they would install a visor on a new bracket and I would just pay for the visor, and no shipping charges. Few hours later they called he had ruined 3 and gave up. Going to try getting the bracket from a different suppler, waiting on that now. She also told me others have had problems also.
I wasn’t sure what to try for a lube that would not stain the cardboard visor.

Might try sand paper then a lite coat of lithium grease

Had the same problem installing a visor on a new rod for the passenger side of my '50. An application of 000 steel wool on the entire length of the rod and then sprayed the rod down with aerosol silicone spray, plenty of twisting while putting the visor on the rod, and a few words not suitable for mixed company finally got it on.

I finally got the visor on the rod this morning. Used some 80 grit sandpaper and 3in1 oil but still had to tap it on with a small hammer the last few inches. It is tight.
