The Stovebolt Site Forums The Shop Area General Truck Talk The Journey Begins!

To make a very long story short, we broke ground today for a shop in the back yard. My brother, Glenn Andrews Passing Lane died in May 2024. We started working on a 1950 Chevy 3100 and before you know it we had enough parts trucks to decide to build two trucks, one for each of us. That was in the early 1980s. Then we both got married and started having kids and everything else went on hold. I sold mine and moved from Long Island to Maryland. Glenn kept his two in storage. When he got cancer around 2018 he started working on his bucket list. We raised the roof of his attached garage, installed a four post lift and he started assembling parts again. Didn't get too far before he couldn't keep at it. He really just wanted to get it on the road and drive it to a meet. After he passed, his widow asked me if I wanted to finish it. I said "I wish I could, but our current place has no room for a project." Then my wife interrupted and said "Why don't we build a new garage back in the yard?." (Yeah, she's a keeper!). Fast forward to March 2026 and we started construction of a 32' x 24' pole barn with a concrete floor and 14' walls. Should be done in May. Then I'll have to figure out a way to retrieve two incomplete trucks, the lift, parts and tools from Long Island to Maryland.

Don't know what I have or need, but at 67 I figure I've got enough time and energy left to learn and get 'er done. Figured I'd post this in Glenn's memory and to get started learning. I saw an almost completed 235 in the chassis, and a dropped axle with 15' wheels and disc brakes up front. Torque tube is still there. will have to decide on a rear and a tranny. Leaning towards a 80's 5-speed manual. I believe all the glass is there for the 5 window cab and it looks like enough bed sides and a tailgate to get started. There's a VIN tag on one truck's door post but we have been unable to find any purchase or title information since they came off a couple of farms back in the early 80's, so that should be fun. Mark - First off a BIG "Welcome Back" sir!

I intend to watch as you share your journey and look forward to offering to help in whatever way a long distance 'Bolter might be able to. Continuing your brother Glenn's original journey sounds like an awesome testament to his legacy and yours.

Just a note that there may be a better place for this journey to be recorded and I've sent Peggy and John a flag to suggest that as they will be the ones to help figure that out.

On a related thought, hope you can find/create and post pictures to help tell the tale as it unfolds. Looking forward to hearing and seeing more!

Got to get a couple of those trucks back on the road. A new shop with a high enough ceiling for a lift is a big plus. You have a lot of friends here to help along the way. Welcome.

Thanks, John. Glenn mentioned how helpful the folks here were. We were members of the Northeast Chevy/GMC Truck Club way back when. Even spent a weekend camping at a meet up in Millers Falls, MA. Hoping to find a club here in northern Maryland with similar interests.
