Since it's possible to swap a HEI distributor for a 194-292 cubic inch inline six engine into a 216-261 block, would it be safe to assume the diameter, tooth pitch, gear centerlines, and similar dimensions are the same? I'm still tinkering with the idea of making a 3 piece roller cam, with a flat tappet distributor gear sandwiched between two billets of round steel stock. There are probably enough "worn out" or scrapped stovebolt cams out there to provide plenty of donor gears, but if the Generation 3 sixes run the same gear dimensions, that would increase the donor gear supply exponentially, with newer material. I think it's also safe to assume the Mercruiser 4 cylinder engines might also be a source, since their timing gears can be used on a stovebolt engine. Comments- - - -laughs, Bronx Cheers, etc. are welcome!

As far as I know they're the same, Jerry. I have a modified HEI distributor designed for 230/250/292 (which I believe will also work in a 194) in my 235 and it has been fine for a long time.

I was reading through some Facebook posts and someone mention they put a distributer from I think they said a Land Cruiser ,I remember one of you mentioning that one of the companies used a similar engine based on the 235 .now would that be a engine that had a electronic type distributor.I will try to find were I seen this but it is like cat and mouse on there everything gets moved around depending on what you look .

Yes, the Toyota LandCruiser engine was based on the 1939-1963 GMC inline Six. I know it was built under license but used metric specs so internal parts won't interchange.

I never knew the dizzy would work in a Stovebolt but I imagine it wouldn't be hard to make one work in a Chevy.

The early Land Cruiser (F series) six was similar to (but not a clone of) the stovebolt six, but there's definitely a family resemblance. The cylinder heads definitely don't interchange.
