on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Feb 2025 Posts: 9 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2025 Posts: 9 | Hi,
My name is Joe. I just joined the site and wanted to say hello. I am very new to the hobby of car restoration. I did work in a garage for a short time but that was over 30 years ago. Some of my questions will likely show my inexperience. My project is a 1949 Chevy 3100 P/U. It was a basket case when it arrived, by roll back, to my home in the Eastern Panhandle of West Virginia. I stripped it down to bare frame and currently its setting on a rear axle from a 2008 Chevy Colorado and the front Axle is stock. However, its completely rebuilt and been modified to disc breaks. The engine is going to be a 1958 235 and its at the machine shop getting rebuilt. The transmission is a pre 1988 Chevy s10 T5 that has been rebuilt. I have already viewed many of the available videos on marrying my engine and transmission. I will more than likely have questions.
Thanks for letting me join
Joe

Marrying an s10 T5 with the 235 will give you many pleasurable driving hours. And updating to disk brakes will allow you to stop safely. The rear axle is a good choice as well. You should be able to cruise comfortably at 65 mph. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2025 Posts: 9 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2025 Posts: 9 | | | | | | Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 6,001 Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT | | Gearhead, Stovebolt Tech and Parts Tracker, Mod for Swap Meet and GTT Joined: Sep 2009 Posts: 6,001 | Welcome to Stovebolt Joe. Your plan sounds like a good one and follows in the path of many Bolters before you. Lots of great information on all the different aspects of your build. Just be sure to post your questions in the forum that best covers the topics for folks to be able to offer your their experience and advise. A good place to begin before you start asking questions is Here. Give that a read and use it to help you navigate the forums. As far as experience goes, we all had to learn at some point. We will enjoy helping you out, so don't be afraid to ask. One other suggestion. See if you can post some pictures of your truck in here to get the hang of that. First because we love to see what you have, but it will often come in handy when you ask questions. If you can attach a picture or two of what you are discussing, those pictures will make it easier to understand what the topic is and the best way to answer your question. Once again, welcome and see you in the forums.

You are now past moderation so posts will go straight thru and you can do PMs. I thought that was neat to have two WVA about the same time in the Welcome Centre.

I do not see a lot of these trucks around here. Probably cause we salt our roads and they got ate up in rust. So having two of us show at the same time is pretty cool. | | | | | Joined: Nov 2021 Posts: 11 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Nov 2021 Posts: 11 | Welcome Joe. You came to the right place. Dan | | |
