My 53 Chevy truck passenger side window vent has been missing the latch for 18 years.I have the glass out & I have a new latch with the pin. Problem is no one sells the (short rod) that goes from inside the frame that would but up to the glass then go through the hole in the frame. Odd the hole in the gram is much smaller than the hole going into the latch! I was going to try & make the pin but I can’t figure out how to make one fit. ???

That shaft that attaches to the vent frame is stepped (smaller diameter) to fit in the frame which is peened over to hold it in place. The hole has the two flats shown in your third picture so it won't rotate. The other end of it has a cut across it to limit the travel of the latch. Here's a picture.

The proper fix would be to find a original and replace the frame that the glass gets fixed into or the whole assembly, which would require removal of the entire vent window assembly.
Without removing the entire vent window, the only way I could see to repair it would be to find an original frame, carefully remove the shaft, fit it into the old frame then tack weld it inside the frame so you don’t affect the handle fitting on the shaft.

What Phil said. You can replace just the glass frame also. That requires a shoulder rivet at the upper pivot point, but those are available from The Filling Station. Removing the glass frame is also the only way to replace the rubber gasket in the vent window assembly.

Thanks, I have those shoulder rivets. Everything is in good condition so I’m trying to just repair the latch attach point. I’ll check with KC or begin grinding some kind of a shaft. Gives me something to do😳🤓🤗
