I'll be there on Saturday. In my truck, if I can get the carb rebuilt by then, else in the Toyota. I don't think I can afford the 200 mile round trip at the current 6 mpg and high-priced gas.
Great show. No trophies, just a bunch of old school rods, customs, trucks. Nothing newer than 1963.
The thing I like best about this show is the relatively high ratio of non small block Chevy engines. Lots of 1st gen Hemis, Nail Head Buicks, Olds Rockets, Caddy V8s, flathead and Y Block Ferds, some GMC 302s and even Stovebolt engines.
But my favorite 2 years ago was Bombshell Betty. With a 320 inch Buick straight 8 it has set six land speed records. Last was 165 MPH at Bonneville 13 years ago.

We'll be there. Only about 5 vehicles from the club are going this year. Might be in about the same spot as the last 2 years. You're welcome to swing by for some lunch and a rest on the tailgate, Bill.
Bill, thanks for posting this up. Our family will be getting back from a UK trip, so I can’t attend. Need to make a run up to visit you in the near future!
My buddy Bill Brubaker from Magnolia will be going for the first time, but I'll bet he'll drive his '95 Firebird hot rod instead of his '50 GMC.

About 8 months ago, I picked up a 1956 Chevy 3100 pickup with a lot of surface rust to start restoring. I am taking photos as I disassemble and reassemble. I am at the stage of attempting to remove the cab from the frame to begin a thorough cleaning, priming and painting. As such I am in no position to drive this to Austin but am strongly considering attending this event anyway. I live and restore classics in San Angelo, so not that difficult of a trip to make. Looking forward to meeting some of you folks, if I can make it. I'm going to try to talk my son into meeting me there from his home in Corpus. He's working side by side with me on his newly acquired 1967 Olds Cutlass Supreme.
Hawkman, it's a great show if you're into traditional styled rods and customs. As Bill mentioned in a previous post, there's a pretty diverse selection of makes, models, and engines. Decent little swap meet, live music, and a building full of art and apparel vendors.
I was too busy having fun that I didn't take many pictures... Actually, rather than quantity of phone camera snaps, I was enjoying just looking at the cars, and trying to find good shots to take with my old 35mm I've started messing with again after a long time of not using it.
The one roll of film was mailed out yesterday, and I'll upload those when I get the scans back.
Had a great time with my wife and car club, seeing friends at the show, walking the grounds looking at cars, and checking out the swap meet and art vendor areas. The Los Cochinos car club and Deadend Magazine show/party on Friday evening was pretty cool- at a venue with murals and graffiti on the walls, with a big round courtyard and balcony surrounding much of it. The sunset and lighting made it pretty surreal. I would have taken more photos there, but we were late and missed the free food before it ran out, so we had to leave to go eat.
Saturday's bad weather held off for the most part- temps in the 50s with some wind and drizzle aren't ideal conditions, but it could have (and has in the past) been much worse. The worst weather passed through Austin while we were indoors eating dinner Saturday evening. Bill Hanlon (and his brother Jack) found us parked in the spot we've been on for around 3 years in a row, and we visited for a bit as is becoming tradition. Once again, it was great catching up and talking trucks and carbs.
Sunday was beautiful, though the wind has convinced me I should go ahead and glue on the cheap door weatherstripping I have had stashed away for several years and not worry about redoing it "later on" when/if I get around to doing some of the other things I long-term-plan to do to the truck.
My wife and I elected to let the rest of the club guys go to Lockhart for BBQ while we went to Taylor to an antique mall we like, then a quick stop in Thrall for a photo opp, then backroads to Giddings for lunch, more antiques, and 290 east the rest of the way home to Spring.
The truck ran great the whole time and continues to impress me.
