I needed a hood ornament to hold the front end of my hood down and assumed that the GMC ornament would be the same length as the Chevrolet ornament for 1940.

I picked up an GMC unit from another Stovebolter and...it doesn't directly fit.

Although all the parts I am working with are used, nothing seems to be very out of shape or previously modified.

Before I start modifying things, I figured that I would ask here if the two parts are expected have the same bolt pattern or if I guessed incorrectly.

Thanks,
Nick

My 40 Chevy piece is 13” from back to front on the mounting tabs and 12” bolt hole center to center.

Thanks for that measurement, Snake.

It looks as though the GMC style ornament I have is a little longer than 12" center to center.

I picked it up from another Stovebolter and assume that it is an original GMC unit. It doesn't appear to have been damaged over the years, yet the holes seem to be further apart than expected. (The GMC style unit I have is a sheet metal item. Does anyone know if the original GMC ornament was sheet metal or was it a cast item like the Chevrolet?)

Perhaps a 1940 GMC owner will notice this thread and let us know what the measurement on their hood ornament is.

Thanks
