I have no idea what this is or what its for... it came with parts for my 1942 Chevy 1-1/2 ton. It is about 4 inches wide, and the notch appears to be pinion related?? I should probably mention that my truck is a G506 4x4 Army truck, with a front and rear differential. I have completely rebuilt both, and don't recall seeing this when doing so.

I have one on the hand brake. Not sure what purpose it serves but I’m sure it helps with the rattling.
