I bought a new water pump for my 235 and when it came in there was no gasket with it. I didn't think much about it, was just going to get one and go on down the road. BUT,,,, no one in my area can get one...

Seems Fel Pro stopped making them. And none of my suppliers around me can get one. Even my NAPA guys.

So I made one. Didn't take long, but just surprised I couldn't get just a water pump gasket locally.

I have posted here in ages, but thought I would ask the dumb question.

When did the pump gasket get so hard to find?

I think you need to find new parts stores to do business with.

Rock Auto has two brands; Victor Reinz and Fel-Pro. $2.63 and $1.13 respectively.

Auto Zone lists the Fel Pro for $3.49

O'Reilly lists the Fel-Pro for $3.49 as well. Part # 5131

Roy - Glad to see you come back and post. Looks like you need to go a fair distance to get to a well known name brand auto parts place like O'Reilly's or Auto Zone in your neck of the woods.

Either of those sources should have or be able to get a 235 water pump gasket. Otto is correct about finding them at rockauto.com, but before we can suggest more, what year 235 are you trying to work on???

Well, when I talked to Autozone, Oreilly and Napa locally, they showed part numbers, but the gasket was not available. Maybe I misread Rock Auto, but thought at the time I looked they were out of stock as well.

It was fun enough to find a water pump for the 235 that didn't require your first born. And it didn't come with a gasket.

But, in the time I spent looking, I just got out the old gasket material and made one.

I do look in pretty often, and I'm looking at putting my 235 back in and taking the V8 out.

I miss the nostalgia of the six, the stomp start, having to work the choke sometimes on a really cold day.

I miss shifting the column shifter..... I did install an electric wiper motor when the vacuum wiper died..... I'll keep that.

I've got to go to a different section to ask about the steering column, so will see you there sometime.

Oh, my Chevy pickup is a 1958 model 3100 short narrow bed. My grand dad bought it when I was about 5 I think. Me and the truck are the same age. Not sure which of us is in better shape.

What water pump did you purchase?

in 2021 I bought a spare water pump for my 235 from RockAuto for $60. It was a GMB, came in a FVP box.

It cost me $200. For my local NAPA to rebuild the original which i put back in my truck.

I sent my original pump to The Flying Dutchman in Oregon. He rebuilt it for $119 and sent it back with a new gasket.
