| | | | | Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,982 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Feb 2016 Posts: 1,982 | My '57 LCF has a braided strap from the battery to the firewall behind the battery, and another from the lower part of the firewall/toeboard to the bellhousing at one of the starter bolts. Mine is a factory 283 V8. I have kept those straps in their original locations and also added a conventional stranded cable from the battery to a water pump bolt.

Both strap and battery cable. 4awg
Strap from the battery to the upper firewall. I added a battery cable from the breather tube mount on the block
to the frame of the truck From the frame to the bell housing. Never too much ground.

It was a lot less expensive on the assembly line that way. Anytime another connection is added into a heavy current circuit there's a potential for loose connections or corrosion to happen. If you're building a "numbers-correct" show truck stick with the original stuff. Otherwise, run a piece of #0 welding cable for a ground from the battery to the engine block or the bell housing to carry starter current, and use smaller grounds to the body and frame for lights, ignition, generator/alternator, etc.
