Does anybody know if a normal brake spoon will work, or if this specific tool is needed? It turns out I don't know if I need new shoes at all, in my ignorance I didn't realize that the brakes need adjusted as they wear... 1961 C40

I have a favorite screwdriver in my specialty tool drawer with a notch ground in it. It hasn't been out of the drawer in may years since self adjusting brakes came along. Used to use it every day at the service station. The boss lost a lot of $2 add ons to routine service jobs so he began having us remover the auto adjusters from regular customer's cars.
