My project's '54 235 came with intake and exhaust manifolds bolted to it that were cast in 1940 for a 216.

I have located a pair of correct part number manifolds to fit to the 235, but I am wondering if I need different clamps for the 235 set up vs the 216.

Also, I think I might have read somewhere that one should use new bolts - or was that for head bolts?

If I need to purchase different bolts than came with the project's motor, what material should they be made from?

I know that this question may be very basic, but I have made enough wrong turns to decide that I should ask questions rather than guess.

The bolts are the same diameter 3/8" coarse thread, but there may be some slight differences in length. I've seen manifolds that have different height ledges where the clamps fit, so would need shorter or longer bolts, mainly at the end bolts. Here's a picture of the manifold on my 216. Note the long bolt on the rear position.

My '46 216 and '60 235 were different on the first and last manifold bolts. The 216 had a thick washer and was close to the block. The 235 had a longer bolt and a metal cup type retainer.

John has illustrated what I recall. I have a short bolt manifold that came off a 46 216, but the one on my '51 216 had the longer bolt like John shows on the '60 235.

As long as the bolts aren't badly corroded, they should be OK to use.

John, maybe it's the angle of the picture but does the manifold of the 235 stick out a lot farther from the side of the engine than that of the 216?

I think they're pretty similar. Here's a pic from above.

Ok. The two pics side by side from different angles made the 235 appear to extend further out.
