PeriscopeFilm.com recently released a digital version of the GM Owner Relations movie “THE TRIP INTO TOWN”. This was a 16mm film in black and white from 1961 intended to be used by Field Representatives during their periodic dealership meetings. The story centers around a rural Chevrolet service department where a customer returns to the shop to talk with the mechanic, Hal, who had worked on his truck, a 1954 Chevy 5-window. (Hal, had attempted a carburetor repair: using only a hammer.) The truck was crucial transportation needed for his wife’s trip to the hospital for her impending delivery. Reflecting on the anxiety and fear he felt during the drive, the owner emphasizes how much he relied on the vehicle and the people who repaired it. In a surprise ending, another mechanic, Charlie, intercedes to save the day (puts Hal in his place!), and delivers a heartfelt monologue about pride in craftsmanship, the dignity of honest labor, and how essential their work is to people. The 22 minute film, altho slow in some parts, is well worth your time. There are commercials in the film which can be “Skipped”. Hope you enjoy this as much as I did!
Regards,
Dave

HERE IS the video.

Thanks for the post, I DID enjoy the film. I wonder if everyone in the past has complained about the quality of things going downhill. 😂

I like his complaining at 12 minute 22 seconds
