Hey...

I am trying to get my 1960 Apache (C10) Muncie SM318 transmission rebuilt because I lost the synchro into 3rd. My transmission guy does not want to touch the transmission without having all the parts first. I found another thread in here regarding the rebuild kit but the synchro rings were only for 1949-1954.

Here are the links mentioned in the other thread...

Does anyone know where I can find the synchro rings for a 1960 Muncie SM318 transmission?

Thanks, Russ

I wouldn't recommend buying the brass syncro rings unless the shop has a good understanding of how to
install them correctly. The procedure includes staking the brass rings into the housing to secure
them. I have had that era syncro assemblies rebuilt by Anaheim Gear in Anaheim, CA.

If the transmission is original you need a 3774720 synchro hub. However you need to look at the synchro. 1952 and earlier used a 2 lug syncho, 53 and 54 used a 4 lug synchry and 55 and up used a completely different synchro. If this is what you have the 3774720 should fit. They are getting scarce, but there are a few NOS around and some good used. 50 years ago, I replaced a lot of synchro rings, but now I would just replace the whole syncro hub. If you can't find anything, take a photo of what you have. i probably have one.

Bornco - Guessing that your post is really about wanting to find a replacement for your 2-3 speed synchro? If so, we need to move the post into the Truck Parts Wanted forum as that's the proper place for such requests.

Okay to move???

At this point. No... I am not in a position to rebuild the transmission and I don't know if my transmission guy wants to at this point.

Understood. wink Looks like you’re just fact finding on what’s needed, so we can leave it here and see about helping gather the info. thumbs_up
