I’ve got a 1972 Chevy C60. When I purchased the truck it had two different width side steps on it. It also has the “wide” front fenders, and while I was trying track down a matching wide drivers side side step, I had a few guys tell me it most likely came from the factory with with the two different width steps. Can anyone confirm this?

I really doubt that it came from the factory with different width steps. It's a 53 year old truck, and it looks like it's had a fender replaced at one point, and whoever did that couldn't find the correct step and put on what they could find.

I agree with you. After the first guy told me it came from the factory that way, I didn’t think much of it. After the second guy told me it, I figured I’d do some digging to see if any one knows for sure.
It might depend on the fuel tank configuration, some trucks used the tank location as a step, some fuel tanks were aft of the cab, a lot of different possibilities. It could have had a tank on each side of different capacities and therefor a different step, just thinking of some explanation here.
