Is there a spring that pops the hood up a little when you pull the latch to open the hood?

I don’t think so. It’s all up to the operator.

Mickey - Does your hood support/latch plate have one of these "springs"??? I think that's what is supposed to "pop" your hood up enough to reach and then release the latch fully. Pic found surfing the web in a FB post about someone asking if anyone had pictures as he thought he was "missing something". wink

I went out and looked at my 56.
No spring.
Always have to lift with left hand when undoing latch
Not sure where that spring would make contact to help if in that position.

here are some pics of mine

unless that spring is supposed rest on top of stock engine parts. would not even be close with my LS sitting lower.

hcb3200, Thanks for the info and details. After reading your reply and seeing pics, I'm going to pull back on my suggestion on that spring. Looking closer at the picture I found, you can see that the hood shown is actually a GMC truck hood and not Chevy as the original poster had claimed. Perhaps it was correct for the GMC's??? Or, that spring could be something someone just added on too. headscratch

No, nothing there Dan. I suspect that's the way it should be. A little hard to lift with no spring help.
P.S. That's from a 82 year old. smile
