That's been an ongoing problem for maybe 6-8 months. The post actually works, but you get that message popped up. If you go back to the site and click on Active Threads, your post should be right on top of the list. It's mainly an annoyance. The software people at UBBThreads have been notified about it, but as usual, they're agonizingly slow in addressing issues.

I’ve been getting the same fatal error for the last week. I’ll go in and clear out my cookies and it works for a day or two, then get another error.

If you get this error, it's not your fault! This is a programming error and it should have been fixed by now. The programmers must have higher priority problems to work on or it's buried deep in the code. The error seems random which makes it hard to trace and correct.
Reminds me of the old days. I would get to work and the System Admin would be waiting for me with a 2" thick system dump print out. I would have to go through it to figure out what went wrong. It would end up being something simple like a user had entered an I (capital i) instead of a 1 (one) in a data entry field. Database wants a number and it gets a letter; bad! That's a type mismatch (TypeError). Anyhow, all you had to do was ask the programmer to add a couple of lines of code to check for it and it won't happen again.
It also doesn't help that we are getting inundated by very high "Guest" counts again. This morning we are hitting over 1300 "Guests On Line" again. I found just getting into the site and logging in took more than the usual time frame (about 30-50 seconds for each step).
I haven't looked at location info for these guests yet this morning, but looking randomly yesterday, when the guest counts were 800-900 or so, showed more than a 50% average of them being from non-US based IP locations. A lot of them showing from Brazil, Vietnam, and odd/unusual locations scattered throughout the middle east and the European far east.
As of this posting, count now shows 1,423 Guests On Line

If you click on your username (top right) then click on cookies, then click expire cookies, you will stop getting fatal errors every time. You’ll have to re login but it sill clear the error for a while. It most likely will return after a few days but at least you not getting it every time.

I've found a quick way to bypass the error message- - - -
When it appears, click on the "back" arrow at the upper left of the page. The post you typed will reappear. Right click and hit "refresh". The post will appear, but you're not done yet. Click on "edit" and post without changing anything. Now your post will appear in the proper order. This has been working for me for several months. Jerry

I get it a lot especially in the last week all of my replies have had it ,Like Jerry says I just hit the edit button and it will usually put the reply in last reply que on the main menu. Like it happened posting this.

I was getting a similar error message (didn't think to copy and paste it) when I tried opening a thread. Happened 4 or 5 times, then the thread opened. When I went back to Active Threads and tried another thread, I got the same thing, error 4 or 5 times, then opened. Each time I got the error I used the "go back one page" arrow on the browser page to reset. Using Firefox.

I (we) can’t thank you enough for what you do for this forum!
OK. I'll admit it. I've been working with Grok to fix some longstanding issues in the software. The last fix we applied caused another issue to rear it's ugly head. Since I had just made a change to the code, I assumed that the change caused the problem and backed it out. (Restored the original code.) But the problem didn't go away. So, I asked Grok what to do, and he found yet another piece of bad code and fixed that. That seems to have resolved it.
Going forward, I'm going to have to set up a test instance of the forum so that I can sort out these problems without blowing up the live forum.
Here's what we've fixed so far: 1) Dramatically increased the responsiveness of the software 2) Fixed the problem with the software sending multiple birthday emails
The problem with random errors when you post is the next one that I'll tackle.
And that should now be fixed. (Fingers crossed.)
