Dear Fellow 'Bolters,
Welcome to The Engine Shop, your go-to resource for discussions, troubleshooting, rebuilding, repairing, updating or swapping engines in our trucks. We're all here to share knowledge and help each other keep those old engines running smoothly.
The key to getting helpful response is asking clear and concise questions. Please include essential details such as the make, year, series/model of your truck, the engine size, and any modifications that might be relevant to your topic. Our community includes retired mechanics with years of expertise, as well as everyday folks who've learned through hands-on experience with a few trusty old trucks.
Crafting a thoughtful title for your post will help attract the right experts and ensure your question gets the attention it deserves.
Just a quick note on boundaries: Engine modifications, "go faster" upgrades, or power-enhancing projects are generally better suited for
The Hi-Po Shop, though there's always some natural overlap between the two.
IMPORTANT NOTE: All car-related posts will gladly be discussed in The Greasy Spoon forum, but the main focus of Stovebolt forums, is pre-1988 GM trucks (including square body 4x4’s and Suburbans to 1991].For those diving into the archives, it's worth mentioning that before 2005, this forum was known as The Engine & Driveline Shop. As a result, you might find older threads discussing transmissions, rear ends, and other driveline issues buried in the history.
Within the Engine forum, is a sub-forum for
Tech Tips. Here you can find “How To” articles about many things relating to engines. Don’t forget to check out our
Legacy Tech Tips also. This area contains not only engine related tips, but allot of other information rich tips such as identifying, electrical, driveline, suspension, etc. pertaining to our beloved trucks.
If you have any questions, concerns, or need guidance, please don't hesitate to reach out to any of the moderators. We're here to help and ensure everyone has a positive experience.
Thank you for being part of this vibrant community. Let's keep the engines roaring and the conversations rolling!
Best regards,
