Looking to replace a fuel pump on my ‘54 3600.
Has glass inspection bulb on top. It’s a 235 Thriftmaster. Need part #. Manual just says either AC, model AF or AC, model BW.

THANKS

The only solution worth considering is to rebuild your existing fuel pump.

ALL of the new ones available today are sub-standarded garbage made in China. They fail almost immediately or fail to perform straight out of the box.

Contact Then and Now Automotive to get a kit to do it yourself, or send it to them to do it for you. They rebuilt mine several years and 10,000 miles ago after 2 new ones failed.

The one with the gold cap died after 300 miles. The silver cap one didn't pump a drop of fuel after installation.

This is a problem that almost every person on this site has experienced.

Your existing fuel pump may have a number stamped or cast in the body (see pic.) Use that number on Then and Now's site LINK to find the proper rebuild kit for your pump. Use your favorite search engine and enter [part no] site:www.then-now-auto.com. Rebuilding one is fairly easy.

The glass bowl pumps on military vehicles were eventually replaced with a steel bowl......very hard to find but boxes under the table at flea markets can yield treasures..... on military trucks that are fired up after lengthy storage...4 or 5 months in Winter time....some owners install a parallel fuel line with an outboard rubber priming bulb which allows filling the carb bowl without turning the engine over , killing the battery and increasing wear with limited oil pressure. some of the M37 Dodge 6 had a short handle on the pump that you could pump by hand and prime the system....they also had a priming hand pump squirting raw gas in the intake manifold before turning the engine...

BUY it anywhere you wish. Carter M2118. The only value in the glass globe is for nostagia. Modern inline fuel filters are good and cheap. Click. Install just before the pump.
Of course you can have it rebuilt or DIY. The rebuild kit anyone sells probably came from China/off shore. Ask "then and now" the country of origin of their kits.

Do you need to bleed fuel through the filter before hooking inline? Thanks

timm1960 - It shouldn't require you to prime or run fuel through the fuel filter unless you are concerned about a filter that has a one way restriction and want to be sure it installed with the correct fuel flow direction.

Otherwise, there is no need to run fuel through a filter before installing it in your line.
