My operator's manual says every 6,000 to 10,000 miles or twice a year. Last time I changed mine was 2 years (5,000+ miles) ago. I am not at all referring to the motor.

My automatic transmission will likely never get changed either due to the amount of miles I put on it. | | | | | Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,889 Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) | | Kettle Custodian (pot stirrer) Joined: Feb 2004 Posts: 29,889 | If you decide to do a change, be sure to flush the axle with some kind of solvent, and drain it well before refilling. I use Diesel fuel as a kind of universal solvent for things like that, since it's a little bit oily, and doesn't completely strip the lubricant from moving parts. To fully drain things, jack up one wheel at a time and let the lube that's in the hubs and axle tubes run to the center. Then refill with fresh lube and jack up the hubs again to flood the wheel bearings with oil. Jerry

I do check and top off the level if necessary during oil changes. No idea if a previous owner ever did a change. Jerry

Like almost never? Craig -- Just to add a "harrumph" to what Jerry said ... When I was working for my friend Pat (part time until I retired and then for 4.5 years after I retired driving tractor trailers and dump trucks ... On the heavytrucks (Peterbilt road tractors and triaxle dump trucks), we'd change the engine oil annually and check the transmission and axles. I'd stick a finger in the check hole and f there was brown or black oil on my finger, I'd put the plug back in and mark it "Good." If I didn;t get any oil on my finger, I'd top it off. If I got milky brown oil on my finger, I'd change it.

Still will check levels as well as how clean the oil looks on the tip of my finger Thanks all for the replies.
