After a long dry spell it appears that Melling is back in production on their version of the 261/Corvette stovebolt camshaft. There are several of them on Ebay, with an average cost of around $200.00, plus lifters. This one has almost exactly the intake valve timing and lift of the 261 cam, and slightly more duration on the exhaust valve- - - -resulting in better scavenging of the cylinder without an objectionably rough idle lope. The exact clone of the 261 cam, the E-293S made by Elgin may or may not be back on the market- - - -not sure about that one! Just a heads-up for anyone wanting to give their 235 or 261 a little extra grunt where it will do some good- - - -at low to midrange RPM. Most of the radical cams that are available only add power at RPM ranges most street engines never see, and they actually produce LESS low speed and midrange power.

Jerry - Is this the Melling CCS-1 camshaft being offered in this evilbay ad? I've come across this and a few other sellers in a quick web search, but all of those indicate that roughly $200 price tag is for the cam only. Lifters must be ordered separately at around $85 and up. Guessing that's what you meant when you said "...plus lifters".

Good info to know for anyone wanting or needing to go this route. Thanks! thumbs_up

BTW - A little further web surfing shows they seem to be available from most every cam seller, even Rock Auto! smile Parts Hawk iscurrently offering the best on line price I could find at $161.03 plus shipping, with Rock Auto coming in 2nd at $184.79 plus shipping. The Parts Hawk source does say they have only "2" left in stock. wink

Yes- - - -the lifters need to be purchased separately. Used lifters can also be reground to the proper bottom profile, as long as they're not badly cupped or chipped. There's a slight radius on the bottom of most lifters to assist in getting them to rotate as the cam lobe passes underneath. I've got a home-brewed fixture for my lathe to do that procedure accurately.
