Let’s give a sincere "Stovebolt" welcome to the newest member of the Project Journal forum, Paul Mullen! We're thrilled to have him join our ranks.
It's clear his love for AD trucks runs deep, starting with vivid memories of his Dad's 1951 Chevy 3100. That truck, bought to help build Paul’s family's log cabin, wasn't just a workhorse for their home. Paul learned to drive on that truck, eventually becoming his daily driver for a cool $600, until he sold it in 1985. What a fantastic piece of family history!
That passion clearly never faded, leading Paul to acquire another classic, a 1950 3100 in 2010. A little compounding revealed an original hunter green beauty in amazing shape with minimal rust – what a find! After doing some mechanical work to get it road ready, he drove this truck for a few years.
While initially intended for delivering high-end furniture he builds (a great use for a this truck), he quickly realized the original drivetrain wasn't quite up to the task.
That realization sparked a dream, in Paul’s own words:
"I found a 292 cu.in. engine from a 1967 pickup, and eventually located a Muncie M21 with a new clutch and all associated bolts and bits for reassembly. In one of my stops to talk to neighbors, I was given a Mustang ll IFS with disc brakes and a power rack. Now, the wheels are turning and what I thought was going to be a restoration, has turned into what I think of as a ‘50 style hot rod with some upgrades.” Recently, life threw Paul a curveball with a crippling scuba accident. Having to learn how to walk again, temporarily sidetracked his build. Paul is finally back at it and ready to get that '50 style hot rod back on track.
