Are 1/2 ton spindles the same as 1 1/2 ton spindles

chevyb is correct that the 1/2 ton spindles won't work on your truck. I would add that according to a 1929-53 Chevy Master parts book, there were 2 different spindles that may apply to your '35. There is GM# 363164 (forging number on the spindle - 365286) which was used on all 1931-early1935 (before Feb 1, 1935) 1-1/2 ton models and a GM# 607317 (forging number on the spindle - 596571) which was used on all later 1935-37 Utility trucks (1-1/2 ton). There is also an added note that when using the later spindle 607317, they require specific bearings and associated parts, indicating the spindle diameters changed requiring these parts.*

I can provide that info later if needed. For now, please let us know the answer to my initial question and we can move on from there.

* Note: This info is based on US Chevy parts book references. Not sure if this also applies to Canadian built trucks, if that is where yours was built. I'll dig through what GM of Canada resources I have to see if I can find more on that.

Please move to Driveline. Back in the day Someone welded the castle nut onto the spindle. Canadian built in Oshawa, Ont.

I guess he couldn't find a cotter pin.

On the "Canadian built in Oshawa, Ont.", is it a Chevy or GMC??? You haven't specified anywhere I can find. Reason I ask is I have some late 1930's GM of Canada Parts list books (these all seem to be Canadian GMC as the model numbers are all T-xx) that may offer some help in ID'ing the original spindle info.

Punch - Just an added note that after checking my GM of Canada Parts Books, the GM part numbers I posted above from the US Chevy Master Parts book are the same as listed in the Canadian books for the 1-1/2 ton trucks. Both for the earlier and later 1935 parts. Hope you and "ddean" can converse further via PM on him being able to help you out (or you can start an actual Truck Parts Wanted ad so you can do the deal making in the appropriate forum).

I’ll try to find a part number and get back to you there’s a lot of “patina” covering those numbers.

Passenger side steering arm (curves attaches to lower spindle has a part # of 377985 and the inner bearing cup on spindle (which won’t come off is 909626.

Punch - The presence of the inner bearing cup "909626" would indicate your spindle is the late 1935 thru 1937 spindle, as that bearing component is listed as required for use with the previously identified GM# "607317" steering knuckle (spindle) mentioned above. *

The steering arm "377985" is listed in the 1941 Chevy Parts Book as shown below. Again it is listed for 1935-37 Utility trucks (1-1/2 ton) which would further confirm the above info too. Hope this info helps confirm what you have.

* Note: The earlier 1941 Chevy Parts Book ID's your spindles with an earlier part number "601474", but the same specific bearing requirements as the 1946 spindle. Same part, just a changed number.

Punch, I just bought a '37 Spindle from Jim Carters used parts for my 1/2 ton. Call and you may get lucky too. Price was very reasonable too. shipping is always the worst for anything. just looked at the date! hope youre all good.
