For helping keep this great

on the Internet for over 30 years! and not clogged down with Ads! Again, thanks! | | | | Joined: Oct 2019 Posts: 449 'Bolter | | 'Bolter Joined: Oct 2019 Posts: 449 | What are the pros and cons of internally vs. externally regulated alternators? I think I'm correct in saying that the external and the voltage reg. is more prone to issues, but on the other hand I am trying to remain as stock as possible. The 1968 292 engine is installed in a 1965 C10.
I would appreciate any recommendations
Thanks

They were marginal 50 years ago, and time has not improved the system! A Delco 10SI internal regulated alternator is just about the only way to go! The only thing better would be a commercial Leece-Neville at three times the price. Jerry

I went through several of them before upgrading to a 105A on my 58. The higher current alternators start charging at lower speeds.
Depending on what your electrical load and normal driving habits, that might or might not be an issue for you. I ran into issues with the electric fan running down the battery when stuck in traffic for extended periods. | | | | | Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 Sir Searchalot | | Sir Searchalot Joined: May 2005 Posts: 8,983 | Chevy used 334-2114 from 1973 on up into the 80's on 6cyl. No issues. It's OE.
