I will beg all of your indulgence while I celebrate a little. My older boy was just promoted to Master Sergeant USAF. His Maintence Group are the gang that keeps the mighty B-52 bombers in the air. His mother and I are pretty proud.

Congrats to your boy and his parents.

When I was turning wrenches on B-52s in the late 60s our shop supervisor was MSGT Van Hoy. A great guy who treated his troops well and knew how to motivate them. After I stood Christmas duty in 1966 he drove me 140 miles to Wichita Falls so I could catch a flight to Houston to be with my family for a day-late Christmas. He had me fill out leave papers for 4 days off that he tore up when I got back on time and without getting in trouble while I was gone.

Congrats. I know that promotions in Air Force to not come easy. My brother spent 23 years in the USAF and retired as and E8 in admin. I spent 3 in the Army and left as an E5 but that was during Vietnam.

Mike - Congrats to your son and his parents too! You are right to be proud of his accomplishment (it takes a lot to get there) and your own in helping him get there! thumbs_up

Hope you will get the opportunity to participate in his pinning ceremony.

Congrats! Senior NCOs run the USAF, just like the other services. The officers are just there to hog all the glory!

Congrats indeed. E-7 is an accomplishment in any service.

laalaa

In the Air Force, Jerry. In the Marine Corps, Officers just sign for stuff, stand CDO duties and other really glamorous things (like certifying Pachinko machines at the E Club ...) while the NCO's and Warrant Officers do all the fun stuff.

But at least I got a cool sword.

Thank you all! After this past week, a reminder of just how lucky we are to have our service men and women protecting us from others that would think nothing of taking our hard earned freedoms from us.
