Interesting that you get the whole engine with the Ford and Plymouth but you don't get the head with the Chevy.

Once purchased a reman Ford flathead V8 that used adjustable lifters. This was probably Sears' way around the issue of grinding valve stems to set valve clearances.

Mr. Parker (1963-64 Auto Shop teacher at Spring Branch High School) taught us how to do valves on a flathead f0rd, and then showed us how to install the adjustable lifters.


'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.

Nobody had ever seen a flathead Ford when I was in high school auto shop, let alone knew how to adjust the valves on one.

Ha! I'm pretty sure that number is not the expiration date. 🤣 But, I do remember someone saying you could buy a house from the Sears catalog?

Used to to live near Carlinville, IL. Supposedly had one of the largest number of surviving Sears homes of any town in the country.
