Question #1: Since the truck never had a heater, I intend to get the truck running before I try to figure out if I am going to install one for my use. If I am not running a heater, is it acceptable to just plug the two places where the heater would connect? I know I could just run a hose from one to the other, but if it is not going to cause a problem, I would prefer to just plug those two openings.
Question #2: What is the small hole for in the top of the thermostat housing for?

That hole is for a clamp for the fuel and vacuum lines that run in front of the valve cover over to the carburetor. Should be tapped 1/4-20 I believe.

On question #1, I think you could do it either way. I left the nipples for the heater hoses in place and put a short loop of hose on it. But plugging the holes would work as well, I believe. There wouldn't be a bypass of the thermostat like there would be with a short loop of hose.

Plug them. A heater was a dealer-installed option on a lot of vehicles back then. Jerry
