Hello,

I have a 5.7L/350 carb crate engine and wondering if the old radiator would keep it cool enough. Old radiator is 18" x 22" x 1.75" in size. Fins about 8-10/inch. Plan to put in AC and running a 700r4 tranny. I read some gents get along fine but want some more input so I don't have to redo after I put together. Done enough of that. If the original isn't sufficient, any recommendations with a radiator with trans cooler built in vs. external trans cooler?

Thank you,

Bill

I did not want to trust the old radiator in my SBC truck conversion so I installed an aluminum radiator that was a "direct" replacement. It has the provisions for the auto transmission cooler but I am not using them (I have a manual). There are a number of sources on E-Bay but hard to say if they are different manufacturers.

Thanks for the feedback WICruiser! I was leaning the same way. I see radiators range from $107 (ebay) and higher. Any issues with the AA3003 radiators or the cheaper ones vs. the 5052 aluminum radiators?

I do not have insight into the differences (if any) between the aluminum alloys used.

There would be no significant difference between aluminum alloys as far as thermal performance. Possibly structural, but hopefully the manufacturer has taken that into account in the design.
