Back in the mid seventies, I had a jack that worked sort of like a turn buckle. It had a place in the middle to insert a short tire iron, which worked as a ratchet that could be made to jack either way, (up or down). It was given to me by my Dad, and I suspect that it may have been original equipment on a light duty type van. Not sure if it was from a Chevy, Ford or Dodge.
Boy it sure was handy. Have any of you ever seen one of these jacks? I have just recently started searching for one, but I am not for sure which make or model of vehicle that it came with. I am almost sure that it was a factory supplied item and not an after market.
Any information will be greatly appreciated, as it will make my search easier.

Yes My dads 62 GMC Carryall Had that same jack and it was strapped down under the drivers side front seat along with the tire iron

Thanks Steve, I wonder if that is what came with the Carryall, or was it from a different vehicle.
My '63 and 68 Chevy 1/2 tons that I once owned had different types of jacks in them. I would almost bet that the jack that I had, originally came from a late sixties or early seventies panel van. Most likely Chevy, but not sure.

And I had the same jack for my 65 panel in the early 70s

Maybe we are thinking of similar but yet different jacks. This one was about a foot tall when it was down all the way. I will have to look at my '59 tonight, I believe that it has an entirely different type of jack. Although the '59 is a much larger truck.

The jack in my '59 is a different style. I guess it would have to be, being that it is a medium duty truck.

I appreciate the info Steve, I am going to watch and see if I can find a picture of an original for those years that you posted and see if we are both thinking about the same jack.

NO that jack on ebay is different,the Handle/crank attachment is at the bottom and is turned cw or ccw to raise or lower.
The one were talking about has what looks like a Tee or crossbar right across where the saddle would be when closed
The handle is inserted in one end of the tee or cross and moved side to side and it works like a ratchet to either raise or lower
The opposite side or the tee/cross is where the tab stuck out that was spring loaded,pull out,rotate 180 ,let go,to select up or down
PS the 1/2,3/4,1tons had respectivly bigger jacks in height

I think you're talking about the kind of jack that was used in the early 30s. I have a couple for my dad's Fjord AA.

The kind of jack you are talking about reminds me of a house jack. (It probably isn't, but just to add to the confusion. )

Are you talking about the type with a round gear exposed parallell to the jacking face?

Steve's description sounds real close to the jack that I had in mind.

The one steve is talking about sounds just like the factory jack that GM used from the late 40s into at least the early 70s.

Hey JLucas do you have any pictures of your trucks

I have lots of pictures, but they are not posted to a web page yet. I did post them on a free site about 6 or 7 months ago, it was a free site and I doubt that they are still there. The night I posted them, I tried several different sites before I had any luck. So at this point I'm not even sure which site it was. It may have been Flickr.com (but not certain) I tried to locate them a while back but to no avail. One of these days, I will try and do it again or maybe submit them for the gallery.
