My question is will a 54 car trans interchange to a 54 3100? Thank you in advance for the answers.

Dave - The short answer is no. The truck 3 speed is longer overall than the passenger 3 speed. I don’t have access to all my resource documents at the moment, but the 1929-54 Chevy Master Parts book lists them as different part numbers.

The bellhousing bolt pattern between the car and pickup is also different- - - -and so is the bellhousing.

A 55 and later passenger transmission will fit the 54 pickup, but it wil have an open drive shaft. All of the AD pickup transmissions will interchange, but some of the internal gears changed in mid 1953,
