I finally have my brake/clutch bracket completed and I'm ready to install my brake master cylinder. Does anyone know what this wire part is for and how it connects? Is this something one of the return springs connect to?

More than likely it connects to the brake pedal return spring.

Maybe someone has pictures of how the springs are connected to the brake and clutch pedals?

My guess is it's the pedal return spring extender. The AD series trucks have something similar.

Thanks Rick! That might help. I'll need to find that extension bracket and wire. I'll look for them this afternoon.

Anyone else out there with pictures of the clutch/brake pedals and how they have the return springs installed? Is that extension wire to the brake about 7 inches long? I could not find anything in my storage trays that looks like the "Z" shape bracket at the other end for the brake spring.

Kevin - On my wire that has a loop on one end and a hook on the other, do you know how the looped end connects to the brake pedal?

On AD trucks, the anchor bracket for the springs is riveted to the frame. That Z shaped bracket would be pretty easy to fabricate if someone could share the dimensions with you.

The hook end of your extension wire would go on the brake pedal and then the spring would hook in the looped end.

You might PM Homer52. Dave has both a 1946 and a 1941 1/2 ton pickup and might be able to give you some more info. Although his 1946 is on an S10 chassis, the 1941 is stock. He might also have another truck of that era tucked away under a tarp.

Kevinski - Thanks for the picture. I ordered the 7" hook-to-hook extension - I didn't want to use a coat hanger and have the hooks pull out. Also, I can probably make that offset bracket - looks pretty simple.

Kevin - I'll try to use my looped extension. If it doesn't work for me, I have a hook-to-hook extension coming in the mail.

I connected the return spring for the clutch. For the brake spring it looks like my old setup had the extension wire on top of the clutch fork. You can see the worn groove on top. The bottom is smooth. I'll pick up some flat bar to make the offset bracket. I guess I could setup the bracket to allow the extension to go on top or bottom of the fork. I'll see what works best.

I was able to contact Homer52 and he sent me these photos of his pedal return spring setup on his '41 (photos look pretty similar). Nice little bracket that is bolted to the bellhousing. He said the brake spring goes under the clutch fork. I have two threaded holes in that location and now I'm thinking about fabricating a bracket similar to his. Looking at some old photos, I didn't have anything bolted there.

Update: I made a bracket for the return springs, but now that I'm installing the engine side pans, the bracket is in the way. When I found my pans, it had a little bracket attached. I figured it was for one of the return springs, so I got it installed and here's how it looks now. I'm hoping this is correct.

OK - I found some GM springs and an extension wire. I believe this will be my brake/clutch pedal return spring setup. Thanks for all the input guys!
