I'll let Sweet fill in the backstory -- it's pretty cool!

Anyway, Wednesday saw my first opportunity to get in a non-farm/non-move/non health related road trip (i.e., fun!) since Winchester.

Took the trailer to Jasper, AL (about 2.5 hours from here) to pick up a truck bed for Sweet.

The young man selling the bed was a very interesting guy -- he is a welder fabricator and on weekends, he works down in one of the local coal mines repairing mining equipment (about 2,000 ft down). He had fascinating stories about his work. Just riding the elevator down ... he gets on the elevator with about 60 other guys and some equipment. He looks down through the open grate floor and sees a tiny light way way way down .... it's the 40 by 40 foot room at the bottom. Cool!

Anyway, my trip took me through Huntsville (a town I'm getting to know pretty well...), Decatur (1st time there) and Moulton, AL. The ride from Moulton to Jasper was ... interesting. Nothing but forest for about 30 miles. Beautiful state road with nothing on it but the occasional log truck swooping by at near sonic speeds.

The truck bed was easily picked up by the two of us, flipped over and strapped down. And I was on my way home. Except for a bad wreck in Jasper and the usual afternoon rush hour in Huntsville, it was a very pleasant ride in the Quigulator.

It was warm enough that I was in t-shirt and shorts and riding with the windows down. The only bad part was how noisy empty aluminum trailers are ...

Just a suggestion, but, you may want to strap that late model bed on to Charlie, then load Charlie on that fancy trailer.
Then do the transfer to Sweet in Townsend Tn. at the Southern Stovebolt Jamboree.
It is somewhat of a halfway meeting point and a good time. Also my redheaded wife (yes, I'm still married) will have her famous cookies there.

The old saying the apple doesn’t fall far from the tree is true here in the Sweet household. My oldest son, Ryan a 19 year old electrical apprentice owns a 2011 Silverado that is lifted, lights, the whole thing. Like his dad he wants his first truck to be perfect. His current bed has minor rust on the rear wheel wells and it drives him crazy. He went and got a price to repair it since body work is not my thing. $1,500.

I told him to just find a clean new bed. Still being a smart alec teenager, he comes back and says the only one he can find is in Alabama and we don’t have the time to drive that far to get it.

“Not so fast” I say. Where in Alabama? He tells me the town and a quick map search finds is within reason of HQ. I reach out to John, he’s willing and available, so John picks up the bed this past Wednesday.

Now that the bed is secured at HQ we can pick it up whenever time allows……

So soon Ryan and I will have a bonding road trip to Alabama.
