Need to remove the side bearings from the diff carrier to install new ring gear. The bearings appear in real good shape so I am planning to reuse if possible. Going to need an appropriate puller. What tool did you use? Saw the service manual tool and several instructional videos. I was considering this style. Any thought or recommendations. They do fit various size axels so what size did you purchase for. It’s an original 46 1/2 ton rear. Appreciate any thoughts.

If the bearings are in good enough shape to be reused, why would you bother pulling them? Unless your puller can get all the way behind the inner race, the bearing will be damaged by removal.

Why would anyone pull a cheapskate stunt like reusing a bearing that's at least 50 years old, regardless of how good it looks? A couple of carrier bearings will be a small fraction of the total cost of the job, and reusing them might be setting yourself up for a catastrophic failure- - - - -particularly if you choose to remove and reinstall them. Either do the job right, or not at all.

I didn't say what Jerry said, but totally agree. Pull them off and replace them.

I was able to remove my bearings with a two jaw puller and impact gun. I believe there were two slots for the puller to fit under the bearing, but I had to grind the tips on the puller to get a better fit. I'm with the other guys - I would refresh it all while you have it out.
