I need a temperature sending unit in order to use my original gauges (1946 Chevy 1/2 ton). We've not found them sold separately, and we don't know if there's a work-around. (Dolphin/modern Gauges isn't an option. I'm keeping everything original, minus swapping to 12V.)
Any advice, or obscure vintage parts stores we've not found? How have you rigged yours to work? TIA

The "sending unit" isn't a separate item- - - -it's incorporated into the gauge with a capillary tube that can't be replaced separately. There's a liquid in the sending bulb that evaporates and moves the temp needle with vapor pressure- - - -no electricity involved. It might be possible to get the gauge rebuilt to original specifications by a professional restorer. Jerry

Here are a couple pics I took. I put it under the hot water at the kitchen sink and it responded immediately. Send me a PM if you are interested. I may have a used one if that will more closely match your existing gauges. I also have all the other gauges in NOS condition as well, just in case you want to go all brand new.

I installed my wiring harness about a month ago, and I went through my odometer and cleaned it and such. This is what I have to work with.
