Hello,

I have the headlight switch shaft sticking out off my 1953 truck dashboard, but no knob for it. The triangular 'shaft' looks too long. Just get an aftermarket new switch with know to match?

Your help would be my pleasure,

Joerg

I believe that's already an aftermarket style switch. I have a similar one with a knob that's held on with a setscrew. The original style has the knob permanently attached to the shaft, with a latch to release the shaft from the switch for installation or removal. I don't know of a source for a knob separately, but any knob you might find at a hardware store would work.
Your picture looks like the switch is in the ON position. Will the shaft push in?
Here's a clip from Jim Carter's web catalog.

I think Classic Parts, Classic Industries and such offer just the knob, being that same switch is used for several years and different models. I do say that the 51-52 knob I got that’s maroon plastic has a cruddy set screw. The thing sets kitty-wampus. Got to work on a shim or something to square it up. And the aftermarket retainer nut that comes with the new switch is junk. I ordered a metal replacement one.

I got a switch that looks just like that with my wiring harness from Speedway.

I got a spare knob from Classic Industries and trimmed the headlight switch shaft to the right length for the knob to sit at the dash when turned off.
