I pulled my original 216 out of my 52 3100 truck for a valve job, clutch, motor mounts etc. I got it back in yesterday but now I cant get my shift rods hooked up correctly. The shift lever in the cab has lots of resistance and is positioned very high like past where either reverse or 2nd should be. My little grandson was moving the lever without it hooked to the transmission could something has jumped out of line inside the shift mechanism? Not sure how to proceed. Was thinking to put both levers under the hood in neutral and then try to move the lever in the cab to the neutral position and see if it pops back in. I'm hesitant to open up the shift box. Thanks Marty

The shift box is a very simple device- - - -just two lever arms with slots in them, and a round torque tube with tabs that engage the slots in the shift arms. Four screws hold the box together. While you've got it apart realigning everything, check for wear, and draw file the upper housing if necessary to eliminate any vertical slop. The diecast housing has a bad habit of wearing egg shaped and creating sloppy linkage movement.

An observation here .
We should all be thankful when we have a little grandchild to play in the truck
and hammer nails in the chopping block! What a joy😊

Marten - First off, Welcome to Stovebolt! Fortunately there are years worth of older discussions and conversations on so many topics for our trucks. I was able to find this older post on 3 Speed Shifters which has great info and some pictures linked that may help you fix your problem.

Do you have a Shop Manual for your truck? If not, you can at least go read through this 1948-51 Chevy Truck Shop Manual which will help you with your 1952 as nothing relating to the shifter really changed. You will find pretty detailed info on your 3 speed shifter in Chapter 7.

Once again Welcome and hope this info provides you some help. smile

Thanks for the link and the welcome. That is exactly what I was looking for. I took the cover off and it did get behind the bottom cog. With the help of a pic I also have my bell crank on the bell housing flipped I'll fix that tomorrow. Hopefully get the old girl running this week. Thanks again
