In Tech Tips Bob Cadwallader says he picked up some clutch tips for his drill driver. Great idea. Anybody know where? I tried the local NAPA but it didn't stock them.

The question of clutch head drivers comes up every few months. If you are looking for the bits/tips, check with Chevs of the 40s. They have five sizes and sell them individually and in a set w/driver. Search for "clutch head".

I have two sets of all but the largest size, but they came with screwdriver sets purchased 10+ years ago. One of them had a POS ratcheting screwdriver but good bits - the driver broke and was thrown away within a few months, but I still have and routinely use all of the bits from that set.

I don't know if there's an Orchard Supply & Hardware near you, but they carry the two smallest bits (5/32 & 3/16) and have the 5/32 driver bit. The 5/32 fits all of the interior screws. And so far, I haven't found any other size screws other than the 5/32 on my truck.

I've also gotten clutch head bits from Chevys of the '40's and can recommend them highly. Plus they'll send you one of their outstanding catalogs with your order.

I get mine off the Snap-On truck, but that is more a matter of convenience for me. The price is comparable for what you would find uptown and you only have to buy the bits you need rather that a whole slug of bits you don't need and a cheepo handle to go with them.

The price I paid for that cheapo set was worth it just for the good bits. For the longest time, the only ones in that set I didn't use were the clutch-heads. Then I bought a stovebolt truck...
