Merely getting the dang things properly seated in both head and manifold. Couldn't split intake and exhaust so it was heavy and awkward to get in and out. Plus, being 70yo with health issues doesn't help.

I ended up grinding a chamfer on the intake manifold and the rings. Seemed to help but still not a design easy to work on.

Project not completed yet. I ache all over so, I took a day off.

I cheat- - - -support the intake/exhaust assembly with an engine hoist, and it's a lot easier to manhandle it into position. Trying to wrangle 40 or 50 pounds of manifolds just ain't happening any more for me! Maybe 50 years ago, before I figured out I'm not really 10 feet tall and bulletproof!

I did similar with a floor jack. 2 boards on each side of the pipe clamped together.
Run 2 1x4 next the pipe and have below the bend level to sit on the jack pad. My floor jack extended outside the truck so I can
lift and lower. Highly recommend the Remflex 2027 Exhaust Gasket. I did not use the alignment rings.
There are guide pins on each end of the block.

I would get a few extra long alignment bolts and cut the heads off them. Screw a couple in and slide the gaskets on and then the manifolds. They will support the manifolds while you start the actual bolts Then remove the alignment bolts. I'm too old for that lifting also.

Be careful- - - -those end dowels that make a convenient place to put long headless guide bolts for manifold installation SHOULD NOT be replaced with bolts. The dowels are there to allow the exhaust manifold to expand and retract from heat changes. Bolting the ends down tight will result in a cracked exhaust manifold. I like to install short Allen head bolts with the heads ground down to the diameter of the dowels instead of fighting with the short headless dowels.

Also, don't put a temporary bolt or stud and nut in the rear hole. Remember, you have to take it out again and there isn't much room to work. I had to spend too much time on the grinder on a 9/16 box wrench to recover from that mistake when I assembled the whole thing on the floor and forgot to take that rear bolt out.

Thanks all for the replies. I learned a lot from them.

All done and back on the road.
