I have a split seat on my 55.1 which I just received back from the upholsterer. As I don't have any before pictures of how the back was attached to the seat bottom (driver's seat) I don't know what I'm missing to complete the installation. Looking at the factory assembly manual I don't get enough detail to understand if there should be a plate inside the seat bottom, or some type of missing bracket on the outside of the seat bottom to attach the seat back to (see pics).
The seat back bolts to the "upper plane" of the lower cushion. That is the magic of the seats. When you sink and rise in the lower cushion, the seat back moves with you rather than just "rubbing " your back as a standard seat does. You will need to feel around for the holes in the bracket on the upper plane of your lower seat cushion. Then bravely poke holes through your new upholstery for the bolts to go. Here are some pictures I hope will help. One shows the bracket peaking through that you are feeling for.
So apparently, I am missing the bar that back bracket attaches to. Can you tell me if it is spot welded (or how is it attached) to the upper frame member that the top of all the springs get attached to?

Yes Tim it is and the bracket I believe was spot welded to the upper spring frame. I thought maybe you could see it through the "flapper valve" hole in the bottom of the seat? Worst case is that it is not hard for an upholstery tech to remove the cover from the lower cushion and you could inspect or even make a bracket? It attaches and "unifies" the seat back and the upper plane of the lower seat cushion. I thought I took a million pictures of those seats in their "skeletal form" but the picture I showed earlier appears to be the only sighting of part of that bracket.
