I am almost ready for wiring, finally got the motor and transmission in. Putting the dash and heater core in real soon. My main question is everyone using the stomp starter or go to a traditional key. We are upgrading the wire to 12v but is the only upgrade on the truck. If you "upgrade" to a 12 volt starter you'll need to change the ring gear on the flywheel. Don't keep the 6 volt starter engaged for long on a 12 volt system.
'57 GMC 102, Original 347 V8, HydraMatic, 3.08 rear gear, added A/C, disk front brakes, HEI, AFB carb, '98 Honda Black Currant paint. T-boned and totaled 10/12
'52 GMC 152 Stake Bed, Original 228, SM420, added A/C, HEI, disk front brakes, '67 Chev 3.55 rear gear. Gets used as a real truck.

A rebuilt to as-new condition 6 volt starter is not as fragile as often reported in my experience. Would I try that with a well worn and somewhat tired 6 volt starter? No. Should I have driven across the parking lot with just my new starter? No (but Jack Danials would beg to differ, all in the name of science  ).
